I flew to Houston, TX this week. In the row in front of me on the plane, a lawyer was talking to his client on his cellphone minutes before take off. The client was obviously agitated “No need to worry” said the attorney “Trial lawyers never rest. I’ll be working on your case all during the flight” He finished his call–and was snoring before we left the runway. It is to be hoped his hours in the air were not billable.
On the coach to the Houston Space center (of which more later) I sat beside a company director from Loreto, TX and struck up a casual conversation about border security. My companion was of Mexican extraction. ” We have no trouble” said my jean wearing, boot sporting friend “Because we all carry guns. I keep a rifle in the back of my truck and we all have handguns under the pillow.
” What do you do about your children?” I gasped
“Teach them to handle them from they are five” he said. Not the question I was asking, or the response I was expecting
” I’m glad you asked me about Hubble. It’s my favorite telescope” said Carl, our excellent tour guide as we visited Mission Control. “Why?” asked a company director, demonstrating the question-asking ability that will serve shareowners well in the boardroom. Carl went on to answer in some detail.
June is the President of a Pharmaceuticals company in which I recommend you buy shares. June’s company develops drugs which all seem to tackle growing problems–high cholesterol, irritable bowel syndrome and staph infections. Oh, and they also are developing a drug to combat premature ejaculation. “It can’t come soon enough” opined my colleague Miss Congeniality.
